Mark Your Calendars for These Sustainability Dates

Most resolutions start with the beginning of a new year. When it comes to sustainability, however, you don’t have to wait until January to begin making changes to your lifestyle. Starting in November 2019, there are some key dates to watch out for, which will help to promote a more eco-conscious society and help put you on a path to a more sustainable lifestyle. Let’s take a look at these sustainability events you can’t afford to miss.

Plant aTree with Double A-November 1,2019

From November 1, 2019 through February 29, 2020, you can have a tree planted in your honor by Double A Paper. These aren’t just any trees. They use less water and produce mature trees in three to five years. We use only these particular trees to create our premium paper, and every part of the tree is used in the production process. This is a unique opportunity to be part of something truly sustainable, and can be done every day! Plant your tree by visiting onedreamonetree.com beginning November 1st!

World Wetlands Day-February 2, 2020

This is a special day that celebrates the delicate, important ecosystems found within wetlands across the world. The day is meant to raise awareness for the impact of climate change on wetlands, and what you can do to improve wetland habitat in your own backyard.

International Day of Forests-March 21, 2020

As the name implies, this day was created to recognize the impact of forests on all of humanity. Specifically, it’s meant to evoke memories of how forests sustain us, both in the past and how they’ll continue to do so in the future.

Earth Day-April 22, 2020

This is likely the most famous sustainability day of all. Everyone is familiar with Earth Day, but few know where or why it began.

Per the Earth Day website, on April 22, 1970, millions of Americans protested across the country, against the smog and air quality that was “becoming deadly and evidence was growing that pollution led to developmental delays in children.” Today, it’s estimated that a billion people take part in Earth Day activities. That’s 1/7th of the entire world population.

Arbor Day-April 2020

Each state in America celebrates Arbor Day at a different time during April, based on when the best time is for planting trees. This holiday has helped to raise domestic awareness of the importance of healthy forests in the United States.

World Environment Day – June 5, 2020

To celebrate all the diverse ecosystems that combine to create our incredible world, most countries set aside June 5. This is a celebration you won’t want to miss.

Clean Up the World Day – September 2020

Held throughout the third week of September, Clean Up the World Day is an event that reminds us of the devastating effects of pollution. By organizing cleanups on local levels, the entire world is able to make a sizeable dent in pollution and trash. It also reminds people of the need for creating as little waste as possible, which is one of the governing theories behind a sustainable lifestyle.

World Animal Day – October 4, 2020

Aside from all the benefits humans get from a sustainable, healthy environment, it’s also worth taking a day out of our schedules to remember all the animals that benefit from our efforts to be more eco-conscious. Animals depend on the very environments we work so hard to protect, which makes this day a cause for celebration.

Whether you’re looking to start living a more sustainable life, or you’re already entrenched in one, attending any of these events throughout the year can help you better reach your goals of a lower impact on the natural world around you
