The new year is here and it’s time to check in on your vendors and assess how they’re doing. You are looking at every angle to see if you need to switch. Here’s what to look for in your paper provider to see if it’s time to make a change.
First things first – Supplier assessment and interview.
Before you can determine if you need to change your paper provider, you must assess your current one to see if it is meeting your paper needs and reflecting your company to the best of its ability. You can do this by holding an internal review and interviewing your business partners who also use your paper supplier. Get their opinions to make a more informed decision. While interviewing, look up third-party reviews and see what the public is saying about your supplier.
After your internal review, schedule a meeting with your paper supplier itself. You can then take what you have learned from your internal meetings and base your questions around that information. This way, you will be able to ask relevant and useful questions to your supplier.

Have a set of agreed goals.
A good supplier will want to work with you to establish a set of agreed upon goals. This will let both you and the supplier know exactly what is expected of each party and what each will bring to the table.
You should also agree on an early warning system that will let both parties know when there are potential problems before they become big problems. This is essential because you will be able to keep your customers happy, and your supplier will be able to get orders done more efficiently.
When to switch.
So you’ve reviewed your supplier internally, asked for meetings, set goals for the both of you, but your supplier isn’t having any of it. What do you do?
Unfortunately, you cannot work with a supplier that is not interested in working with you, especially one that won’t talk with you about performance goals. It is now time for you to switch paper suppliers. But whom do you switch too?
You may be surprised to see that there are very few paper providers that are willing to work with their customer on a level that you are comfortable with. There are even fewer that are affordable, jam-free, and environmentally sustainable.
