From Rice Fields to Your Office Printer

If you’re reading this, you may be wondering what makes Double A paper such a quality and environmentally friendly paper? How do we do it? How does our paper go from a rice field in Thailand to office printers all over the world? In this article, we will try to explain the gist of how we go from a humble start in Thailand, to offices around the globe. It all starts with the rice farmers.

From the rice fields

Rice in Thailand is a big industry. In fact, Thailand is the 5th largest amount of land under rice cultivation in the world, and the world’s 2nd largest exporter of rice. So, it is no surprise that there are a lot of rice farmers with fields upon fields of rice farms. The way a rice field is constructed, in the simplest way possible, is a square. Then, soil is built up for separation purposes and another square is built. Eventually, there are many, many squares where the rice can grow.

The ridge that is in between the squares is called KHAN-NA. The KHAN-NA ridges are used as pathways between the rice fields. This is part of the field that is unused by the farmers for growing crops because it is simply just the barrier separating rice fields. There is nothing wrong with the soil, it is just the natural excess that the farmers don’t use for crops.

To our tree

We crafted our patented Double A Tree, which is a hybrid eucalyptus tree, that provides a quality paper fiber for us to farm. However, we wanted it to be sustainable. So, we came up with an idea: How about we pay the rice farmers to let us use their unused KHAN-NA to grow our trees. Then we would harvest our trees and make high quality paper.

This formula became a win-win for us and the farmers. We harvest trees that can have regrowth up to 3 times, then pulled and a new tree planted. None of our tree goes to waste throughout the process. The remains of the tree not used for pulp is ground up for biomass as our mill is run on renewable energy. Plus, it helps the economy of Thailand.

To your printer

Once we harvest our trees, it is then sent to our manufacturing centers to make into paper. We then ship it to customers like you! Because of the quality of our fibers, our paper ends up being naturally resistant to leaving loose fiber when going through your office printer.

Our paper has short fibers and the reason for no dust is that we don’t put filler into our pulp. 100% of the DA Paper tree is used for pulp. The DA Paper tree delivers consistent, high fiber content for the pulp used in DA paper. 30 million fibers per gram delivers better paper formation, high opacity, low ash content and smoothness that are the hallmarks of DA quality. This means that you will save money by not having to buy replacement rollers as often or even new printers.

We ship our paper to all corners of the world, which means we must keep the impact of our paper in mind for the environment. Being the only fully sustainable paper, we are proud to say that buying our paper means you are helping to save the planet and your pocket book.
